It’s been a hectic couple of months for Dead Centre Brewing. From a standing start, selling our very first cans in September, we’re all set to can off our third batch (tomorrow as it happens) with Irish Craft Canning.
First of all…I really want to thank everyone who has bought, rated, recommended or just generally supported Marooned IPA. It has genuinely moved far better than I could have hoped.
I’ve had quite a few queries about the design on the cans, so a quick bit of background. I suppose we really did some basic testing between two designs. The one we went with was designed right here in-house, but the amazing design that gave it a run for it’s money was designed by our good friend and all round sound man, Trevor Nolan.
I think most people understand that the map pin icon we’re using relates to the fact that ‘dead centre’ is in reference to our home-town of Athlone, which is in the dead centre of the country (creative licence may have been applied here), so it makes sense to use the pin drop. The faint lines on the background of the cans though…that might take some explaining.
Those lines are actually depth lines from the Shannon that we lifted from an old map and stylized to suit the can. Actually, it didn’t take much explaining. Who knew.
Lastly, a quick update on our range. Our first beer, Marooned Oatmeal IPA, was due to have a team mate by now, but we’ve been learning a lot of lessons over the first number of batches we brewed. The long and short of it is that we’ve brewed far more than we expected to brew in 2017…and every one of those brews have had to be Marooned, simply so that we could keep up with orders.
We have pilot batches fermenting away at the moment and we could definitely have another beer out before Christmas…but relying on a beer to shift in January is dream-land, so realistically, it’ll be February before you see our newest beer.
It’ll be worth the wait!
